preparing for christmas goes beyond fresh spruce candles, shiny ornaments, gift lists and gingerbread lattes.
today begins a season of advent, anticipating what's to come. christmas. my prayer is that jesus would be big. that we would see him above all the natural hustle of this wonderful time of the year. i want to see him glorious and to worship him in this time of waiting. i pray that he would keep our hearts turned to him, and open to the needs of others this christmas.
we're doing a few things here to celebrate and i want to share them with you in case you're searching for ideas!
here's a quick list
a prayer for the first sunday of advent, beautiful way to begin, from scotty smith
good news of great joy, from desiring god // available in multiple formats, including as a plan on the youversion app
counting the days, lighting the candles, by elyse fitzpatrick and jess thompson
come thou long expected jesus, by nancy guthrie
jesus storybook bible plan, a favorite for us!
and i loved this article, why celebrate advent?, from the gospel coalition
i make(and use store bought...i mean, the more countdowns the merrier!!) countdown calendars. create a list or tuck activities in your countdown calendar or jar, customize to what's best for your family! we like reading the christmas story from the book of luke and in children's bibles, sing a christmas carol and research the story behind it go out driving/walking to look at christmas lights make christmas ornaments take a christmas treat to a neighbor decorate the christmas tree...purchase gift cards for your kids to shop for treats and necessities for friends in need...
there are ideas all over pinterest and even in a few of the resources mentioned above. i also found this worth the money.
and i think this list is fun!
in previous years i've had this give christmas page open and i'm doing it again. hopeful to inspire you to get creative with your gift giving this year, and to bless others above yourself.
jesus said, "i am the light that has come into the world. no one who believes in me will stay in the darkness hiding anymore."
