to the god of my salvation {and praying for you}

i want to pray for you. and you can pray for me, too.
i am my usual muddle of sin and selfishness, seems every time i turn around, i'm asking forgiveness. i'm hurting. with friends who are buried in depression, others feeling the fresh sting of loss. and i'm rejoicing with friends. finalized adoptions, new jobs and marriage announcements. experiencing various emotions can be exhausting.
but god is good, and to be praised, all the time. valleys, mountains, deserts and floods. rising sun, to darkest night. for me, joy and grief are usually happening at the same, is there a more tricky blending than that? the way i keep from being overwhelmed is remembering god and believing his word. that's remaining aware of my savior and having confidence in his truth. weeping still comes, hurts still hurt, "pain is inevitable, but misery is optional, we cannot avoid pain, but we can avoid joy.". we need to choose joy. seeing jesus, who he is, his grace. this is the springboard to gratitude. and when we are thankful, we are joyful.

today i'm marinating in the goodness of the god of my salvation. jesus. crying out to him, to help me. to keep my heart free from the swell of anger and pride, to resist letting pain be bigger than my hope.  he will help to be an encouragement to others. i'm asking him to make me an ambassador for his gospel instead of hopelessness. so i'm saying his word back to him today, in prayer and worship:

What mighty praise,
O God, belongs to you in Zion.
We will fulfill our vows to you,
for you answer our prayers.
All of us must come to you.
Though we are overwhelmed by our sins,
you forgive them all.
What joy for those you choose to bring near,
those who live in your holy courts.
What festivities await us inside your holy Temple.
You faithfully answer our prayers
with awesome deeds, O God our savior.
You are the hope of everyone on earth,
even those who sail on distant seas.
You formed the mountains by your power
and armed yourself with mighty strength.
You quieted the raging oceans
with their pounding waves
and silenced the shouting of the nations.
Those who live at the ends of the earth
stand in awe of your wonders.
From where the sun rises to where it sets,
you inspire shouts of joy.
You take care of the earth and water it,
making it rich and fertile.
The river of God has plenty of water;
it provides a bountiful harvest of grain,
for you have ordered it so.
You drench the plowed ground with rain,
melting the clods and leveling the ridges.
You soften the earth with showers
and bless its abundant crops.
You crown the year with a bountiful harvest;
even the hard pathways overflow with abundance.
The grasslands of the wilderness become a lush pasture,
and the hillsides blossom with joy.
The meadows are clothed with flocks of sheep,
and the valleys are carpeted with grain.
They all shout and sing for joy!
{psalm 65 nlt}

  8. i'm feeling pretty muddly myself today. so glad to have friends who pray. (you've actually been on my mind quite a bit this past week--mostly i've been thinking about how much i'd like to be the sort of person who oozes joy. a hannah-y person.)

    after my husband and i both lost our jobs on the same day last december, things have been kinda yuck. BUT, God's teaching us a lot through it all. would you pray for clarity and direction and answers (and JOBS!) for us? :)

    thanks. praying for you too.
