monday medley

i love getting notes from my pops. he shares the very best, always what my soul needs to hear.
this quote reminded me of what i've been thinking about love.

we recently visited the drive thru car wash. we had a coupon from a fill-up and absolutely love elijah's excitement about it all.

also exciting to our boy, books. and lately, sandra boynton books are the favorite. he says the title when he asks for it, like this: "going to bed book? by sandra boynton!" we think he knows the name because we have the book apps on our phones, and he's heard it several times. sometimes though, i think the kid can read already!

what we have here are my two favorite snacks. healthy and delicious. well, fifty percent healthy. have you tried a sweet orin apple? i happened upon them at the store a few weeks ago and love them. they are incredibly sweet and crisp. just being near them, you can smell their sweetness, cut into one and it's heaven. almost has hints of pineapple. go get some! the true beauty here is, these are both gluten-free. why do i care? i've been struggling lately and visited the doctor. long story short, i'm on a 60 day gluten free diet as a trial.

this is what my face looked like last week when i started the gluten free lifestyle change. good grief.  soon, i think i'll share a happier one, because i'm one week into this...and i think we have a solution to my problems. well, some of my problems. i've been busy pinning gluten free ideas on pinterest, and i'd love to hear from you if you have favorites! if this is the culprit, if going gluten free is the answer to my terrible misery physically, then hallelujah! i'm ready for this!

i had the treat of babysitting my nieces this weekend. ivy was asleep already, so it was just me and hazel, partying like rockstars. the party soon ended when this adorable little night owl started howling and carrying on, she has some serious pipes. my sister has told me about this, and i was a perfect aunt and thought no way could hazel every be so sassy. the little peach proved me wrong. bless her heart. but i don't mind so much, i mean, look at those eyes!

linking up my random with carissa today, join us!

  1. YAY for fiestaware! :) I've never heard of that apple, but if I see one, I'll get it & think of you while I munch on it!

  2. Well, here's this: I make the bestest gluten free sweet potato souffle in the land. It's so scrumptious that people beg me to make it. They have no idea it's gluten free. It's the perfect sweet treat for a fancy meal. If you're a fan, buzz me and I will dig it out for you.

Sandra Boynton is our big fat book hero. You know how the back of the board books have pictures of her other books? Well, Little Sister is all in a tizzy that she does not own every. single. one. She knows all of the words to the ones she has by heart and we have to read them in the same order every day. No mixing them up. She is serious about her little collection.

Have a happy day. Thinking of you all the live-long day.

    xxoo

  3. My father in law is gluten free and I made these when they came over once http://www.seededatthetable.com/2011/06/22/fudgy-black-bean-brownies/ I realize that black bean brownies sound weird, but as long as they aren't warm, they're so good. Plus, I added more chocolate chips than it called for, because, well, you can't go wrong with more chocolate!

  4. We're loving black bean brownies at my house. I post them about once a week because I make them usually twice a week when I pre-cook too many beans...You can't miss 'em : )

  8. Chips and salsa were my gluten-free go-to!! I did it six years ago (as a health thing trial too) but back then there was way less awareness and options. I'm thankful times are changing for your sweet sake! You can do this. And I pray it really helps.
