we took a little walk

down by the river.
which happens to look very awesome right now, as it is just barely thawing out...
this is equivalent to our back yard. heck, this is our back yard.
the river is just behind our downtown apartment building, beyond the great flood wall.
the miles long greenway trail along the river is one of our favorite places in town.
and soon it will actually be green. right now it's a soggy mess.
we don't mind a little mud on our shoes, so walk we did!

i wish i would have brought my "real" camera.
thankful i had my phone along though, managed a few photos!

it wasn't as warm as i was dreaming it'd be, but it was super nice out!
days like yesterday shine the hope of a soon spring straight through my jacket.
after about a mile, i even took my jacket off. short sleeves, y'all.
couldn't stand the breeze on my arms for too long,
but the little i did manage was a dose of sunshine in itself.
elijah really enjoyed relaxing in the wagon. until he saw sticks.
then he hopped up and jumped out.
yeah. probably won't be going on any wagon rides without patrick or someone else
along to help out with the sudden abandoning that is sure to happen:)

the fresh air was tremendous for our moods. it was a gorgeous day!
my boy has a tinge of windburn, but he doesn't seem to mind.
those sweetie pink cheeks are a prize from his first crisp sunny day in forever.
what a happy kid! and happy mama, too.
elijah is non-stop entertainment, so it was a fun day as well.
he found sticks for each of us, and we all walked along with our faces toward the sun.
what a gift. so thankful that we could finally enjoy a walk like that.
i'm not quite sold that winter is over, but i am sure thrilled with the bit of spring we are having now!

the river looks so incredible right now. there is no doubt in my mind that elijah would have fully explored it
if we'd allowed such a thing. we settled for this close, and pointing to the pretty, frosty water.
 i wonder how much flooding we'll have this year?
i'm thinking not much. mildest winter we've had since living here.

spring is coming. i am grateful.
and i've got an amazing husband and a delightful boy to enjoy it with!
i'm thankful for emmanuel. god with us. in the spring of life, and in the deepest winter, too.

i read this recently and wanted to share it with you:

Do not be afraid to enter the cloud that is settling down on your life.
God is in it.
The other side is radiant with His glory.
"Think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is
to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you;
but rejoice,
inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings."
When you seem loneliest and most forsaken, God is nigh.
He is in the dark cloud.
Plunge into the blackness of its darkness without flinching;
under the shrouding curtain of His pavilion you will find God awaiting you.
{from streams in the desert}

praise jesus for his always being everywhere with us.
i take great comfort in this truth!

god is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
{psalm 46:1}

what are you thankful for today?
{linking up here with carina, here with alysa and here with sarah!}

  1. We are on spring break this week, and my oldest has a terrible stomach bug...and we are on vacation. I was explaining this very thing to him tonight, while preaching to my own heart to not be discouraged. Thanks for the testimony of his graciousness!

  2. what a beautiful trail. i can only imagine how much more beautiful it is in the spring and summer. I would not mind the mud or soggy mess either. My kids love simple joys like this! Today I am most thankful for my friends and family who are incredibly supportive of me and life me up when I seem to need it most.

  5. So glad you got outside and enjoyed the fresh air. We are such outside people. "Down by the rive" gave me a chuckle. Do you remember the Chris Farley SNL skit with that phrase? Anyway, have a great day girl!

  6. I am thankful for another cold, rainy day here. As desperately as I want to sunshine and warm spring days to make their appearance, I know all the rain we can get here in the desert will come in handy in the hot, hot summer.

    And I'm thankful for your encouraging spirit! I never leave here without feeling encouraged and that is a gift! Thanks! :)
