cheers! {to cookies, love, and a beautiful new thing}

hello, and happy hearts day to you.
have you entered the sassy lemonade giveaway yet?

yesterday, we hosted a little party for a few pals elijah's age.
my most favorite treat served:

they were more marvelous than i hoped for. i'll be making them again very soon.
here's the recipe so you can, too!

tonight we will pick up a pizza. we're fancy like that.
more than likely we'll watch hitch. and maybe lars and the real girl.
even though i just watched lars this weekend:)
lars is my fave. such a sweet story of compassion and love.
seriously, if you've never seen it, you must.
when i was watching lars on saturday night, i thought of love.

i thought of how i don't understand it sometimes. mostly god's love.
because when i ponder it for more than a minute, i become overwhelmed with its totality.

it covers my own life. my past, present and my yet to be. and it reaches to the entire world!
his love celebrates with me. his love mourns with me. his love loves when i do not love.
when i cannot love. jesus supernaturally intervenes and give me love for others.
i'm so guilty of not loving others as god has commanded me to.
sadly, especially in my own family. why is it that i can be most unloving in my behavior,
to my husband, who i really love the most?
loving others requires resources i do not have.
i wasn't born a "loving person". truly, i believe no one is. i mean, it is a fruit of the spirit.
not a fruit of how my family loves me, or how much good i do or have done for me.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind
of fruit in our lives: love, joy,
peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control...
{Galatians 5:22-23 nlt}

this is the only way that i can love others. by the fruit of the spirit.
where do i find this fruit? in the word. being in it daily, marinating in god's truth.
in prayer, asking him to help me cultivate that fruit of love.

Then Christ will make his home in
your hearts as you trust in him.
Your roots will grow down into God’s love
and keep you strong. And may you have the power
to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide,
how long, how high, and how deep his love is.
May you experience the love of Christ,
though it is too great to understand fully.
Then you will be made complete with all the fullness
of life and power that comes from God
{Ephesians 3:17-19 nlt}

that's my prayer. to fully experience christ's love, so i can give it away.
i want christ at home in my heart. i want to trust him.
i want deep roots, relying on his strength to keep me strong.

pray this with me?
ask him for the fruit of his love in your life.
ask him to show you how to love, and glorify god in doing so!

speaking of love and deep roots in the savior...

i'm walking on sunshine today over the launch of a delightful new project.
this new online community is a place to visit to deepen your relationship with the savior
through encouraging words, inspiring projects and creative vision.
a place where you are loved and special, to one another and the lord.

it's my pleasure and complete honor to be a contributor to this beautiful space.

come on over, get to know us! become a part of this beautifully rooted community!

  1. I love your beautiful scripture from Ephesians. Thanks for sharing. Blessing to you

  2. seems each trip to the library i contemplate borrowing 'lars and the real girl' but have never taken the plunge. now that i have a solid recommendation, i shall snatch it up right quick.

and every single morning (in the shower, usually) i ask God to help me, help me love the people around me. the main issue, i fear, is not that they are hard to love but that i am so slow with the loving.

bless you for this post, my dear hannah.

  3. Love your heart, Hannah. You inspire me, each time I visit here, to be better.

  4. Oh goodness, there is a scene in Hitch that happened to Kevin in real life. It was so hilarious. I kept saying, "you look like Will Smith in Hitch!" Happy V-Day girl! Love you!

  5. what a lovely community over there. not to mention it looks absolutely beautiful. wow. those cookies? still want some. do you hate me for cheating on my no month of sugar? because i already did. bummer. please still be my friend.

prayin it with ya, my dear!

  6. What a wonderful place. Got lost in visiting and almost forgot to come back and say thanks for the words and sharing.

  7. I see where Joye will be there, too. I'm going to visit now.

  12. I'm so jeal that you fancy peeps get to stay home and have pizza. That's what we usually do. It's my sons birthday and this year he doesn't want pizza :( he wants to go out to dinner so I'm pulling up my big girl pants and facing the crowd.
    Happy Heart Day!

  13. Hi! Found you through Angel at Living with Moxie. Love your post today. On a day where human love is celebrated, it is nice to be reminded of the ultimate love. Also, I LOVE Lars and the Real Girl. I love the way it shows a community sacrificially loving one of its own. Now I want to watch it again! Have a very happy Valentine's Day!

  14. I knew we were meant to be! I loooove Lars and the Real Girl! :) I'm excited to see that you are contributing to Beautifully Rooted. Such a wonderful project to be a part of.

  15. I noticed Emily left a comment. She is the one who introduced me to Lars and the Real Girl. I love the movie...such a great picture of loving, committed community. I hope you've had a good Valentine's Day, Hannah! We are just cuddled up with a fire relaxing. It was a cold, cold day here in AZ. 42 degrees! :)

  16. i have never even heard of lars and the real girl. what is wrong with me? all these people commenting know what it is!

  17. I don't know what lars or the real girl are either. I must really live in a box. Or a bubble.

Heading over the Beautifully Rooted now. Sounds like something to be a part of.

May shining His love be our ultimate goal.

  18. Very excited to meet you!!! love this post about letting our roots go down deep into the love of Christ! and isn't B. Rooted just another beautiful extension of our Father's extravagant love! Really really happy to get to know you!

  19. Great words, Hannah! so true, I cannot love without God's love first filling me-and it can be frustrating to admit that and surrender-but when we do--Supernatural love reigns!

  20. What encouraging words...thank you for the reminder and the Valentine wishes! So happy to have found you :) B. Rooted is linking us already! God is good :)
