cheers! {to cookies, love, and a beautiful new thing}

hello, and happy hearts day to you.
have you entered the sassy lemonade giveaway yet?

yesterday, we hosted a little party for a few pals elijah's age.
my most favorite treat served:

they were more marvelous than i hoped for. i'll be making them again very soon.
here's the recipe so you can, too!

tonight we will pick up a pizza. we're fancy like that.
more than likely we'll watch hitch. and maybe lars and the real girl.
even though i just watched lars this weekend:)
lars is my fave. such a sweet story of compassion and love.
seriously, if you've never seen it, you must.
when i was watching lars on saturday night, i thought of love.

i thought of how i don't understand it sometimes. mostly god's love.
because when i ponder it for more than a minute, i become overwhelmed with its totality.

it covers my own life. my past, present and my yet to be. and it reaches to the entire world!
his love celebrates with me. his love mourns with me. his love loves when i do not love.
when i cannot love. jesus supernaturally intervenes and give me love for others.
i'm so guilty of not loving others as god has commanded me to.
sadly, especially in my own family. why is it that i can be most unloving in my behavior,
to my husband, who i really love the most?
loving others requires resources i do not have.
i wasn't born a "loving person". truly, i believe no one is. i mean, it is a fruit of the spirit.
not a fruit of how my family loves me, or how much good i do or have done for me.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind
of fruit in our lives: love, joy,
peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control...
{Galatians 5:22-23 nlt}

this is the only way that i can love others. by the fruit of the spirit.
where do i find this fruit? in the word. being in it daily, marinating in god's truth.
in prayer, asking him to help me cultivate that fruit of love.

Then Christ will make his home in
your hearts as you trust in him.
Your roots will grow down into God’s love
and keep you strong. And may you have the power
to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide,
how long, how high, and how deep his love is.
May you experience the love of Christ,
though it is too great to understand fully.
Then you will be made complete with all the fullness
of life and power that comes from God
{Ephesians 3:17-19 nlt}

that's my prayer. to fully experience christ's love, so i can give it away.
i want christ at home in my heart. i want to trust him.
i want deep roots, relying on his strength to keep me strong.

pray this with me?
ask him for the fruit of his love in your life.
ask him to show you how to love, and glorify god in doing so!

speaking of love and deep roots in the savior...

i'm walking on sunshine today over the launch of a delightful new project.
this new online community is a place to visit to deepen your relationship with the savior
through encouraging words, inspiring projects and creative vision.
a place where you are loved and special, to one another and the lord.

it's my pleasure and complete honor to be a contributor to this beautiful space.

  2. seems each trip to the library i contemplate borrowing 'lars and the real girl' but have never taken the plunge. now that i have a solid recommendation, i shall snatch it up right quick.

    and every single morning (in the shower, usually) i ask God to help me, help me love the people around me. the main issue, i fear, is not that they are hard to love but that i am so slow with the loving.

    bless you for this post, my dear hannah.

  19. Great words, Hannah! so true, I cannot love without God's love first filling me-and it can be frustrating to admit that and surrender-but when we do--Supernatural love reigns!
