happy sunday

Come, thou Fount of every blessing,
tune my heart to sing thy grace;
streams of mercy, never ceasing,
call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it,
mount of thy redeeming love.

Here I raise mine Ebenezer;
hither by thy help I'm come;
and I hope, by thy good pleasure,
safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
wandering from the fold of God;
he, to rescue me from danger,
interposed his precious blood

O to grace how great a debtor
daily I'm constrained to be!
Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to thee
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
prone to leave the God I love;
here's my heart, O take and seal it,
seal it for thy courts above.
{Robert Robinson}

today i'm thankful for:
:: these lyrics, he sought me when a stranger ::
:: soup on a blustery day ::
:: lemon in my ice water ::
:: a new toothbrush ::

what are you thankful for?

  1. I love this song. It reminds me of my wayward brother. Every time I hear it my spirit yearns within me to pray for him.

    I'm thankful that though he runs from God, God is still pursuing him.

  2. beautiful song that i love to sing. reminds me of God's unfailing love that searches me out. that's what I'm thankful for most. can't even wrap my mind fully around that!

  3. This is one of my favorite hymns...I'm so thankful for God's unfailing grace, candy corn, and Charlie. And you. :)

  4. I'm thankful for 2 sleeping babes by 7:45pm (!), a hubby who's home & some good blog reads! :)

  5. One of my favorite hymns! And I love that artwork!

  6. this song healed me a couple days ago when i was feeling so low.
    i kept singing this line over and over again.
    such a perfect song.

  7. "Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
    prone to leave the God I love;
    here's my heart, O take and seal it,
    seal it for thy courts above."

    thank you.

  8. This is one of my favorite songs, Hannah. And I love It is Well with my Soul, too. So full of rich truth.

    Oh, how I need to be fettered to His goodness. :)

  9. LOVE this song. And we have been singing it a lot lately at church, college group... on my radar. Even though I still don't know what a fetter is and I refuse to google it.

  10. Josh & I had this hymn sung at our wedding; one of our absolute favorites! The word "Ebenezer" has become a sort of motto of ours as we moved to a new state and Josh began med school. Ebenezer: "hitherto hath the Lord helped us." What encouragement we have found when looking back at God's blessings and remembering His past faithfulness. We have such peace knowing that He has led us here and will continue to be with us as we face future unknowns. Praise Jesus. :)

  11. OH man, have you heard Sara Groves' version of this song?! So beautiful, and gosh this song, what a prayer what an anthem, BIND MY WANDERING HEART TO THEE, yes Lord that's all we want!
