hello, monday. hello, blog.

congrats to chelsea of name your {joy}!
a few of you have asked about my blog address, "aholeistodig".
it is the title of a very favorite book, a hole is to dig, by ruth krauss and maurice sendak.
{now, the title of my blog, happy days, came a bit after this url decision. it's what we strive for here in our home. joy in jesus. it's also what i wish upon you:) it also graces the end of many letters from my pops. he even "says" it his text messages. anyway, back to this book...}
a few months ago, i gave away a copy, to celebrate this blog a bit.
originally written in 1952, this children's book of first definitions is a classic. my mama gave me a copy one year, for easter i think. my copy is a special copy, it includes "open house for butterflies". another favorite for sure.
i wanted to give you a little peek into this charming little duet:

hello, cute book.
hello, sweet magical illustrations! they will force a wide smile across your face.
hello, funny words. i think i know this book by heart, certain pages still make me chuckle.
hello, open house for butterflies.
hello, lots of very useful things to know. and more delightful illustrations by sendak.

i have looked to and fro for a copy exactly like you see here. i simply cannot find one.
good news though! i did find a nice hardcover copy of a hole is to dig,
and it can be yours.

hello, little giveaway!
to be entered to win:
leave a comment, telling me your favorite children's book.
{i will choose a winner on wednesday night 8/10, using random.org.}

happy monday!
xo
this is the day that the lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.

    My favorite children's book would have to be the one I got for sweet little Ivy: And to Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street. Such a good one. :) However...following close behind would have to be If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and If You Give a Moose a Muffin. :) Have a lovely Monday!

  20. Hmmm.... This is a hard one, but my mom~in~law bought my daughter a compilation of Dick and Jane books, and she loves reading them... And my husband and I always silently giggle every time she says Dick (I know~ I should never admit that). She reads them to her brothers and now her sister, and they'll all sit and read together for hours. Melts my heart! Blessings ;)
