we rest on thee

We rest on Thee, our Shield and our Defender!
We go not forth alone against the foe;
Strong in Thy strength, safe in Thy keeping tender,
We rest on Thee, and in Thy Name we go.
Strong in Thy strength, safe in Thy keeping tender,
We rest on Thee, and in Thy Name we go.

Yes, in Thy Name, O Captain of salvation!
In Thy dear Name, all other names above;
Jesus our Righteousness, our sure Foundation,
Our Prince of glory and our King of love.
Jesus our Righteousness, our sure Foundation,
Our Prince of glory and our King of love.

We go in faith, our own great weakness feeling,
And needing more each day Thy grace to know:
Yet from our hearts a song of triumph pealing,
“We rest on Thee, and in Thy Name we go.”
Yet from our hearts a song of triumph pealing,
“We rest on Thee, and in Thy Name we go.”

We rest on Thee, our Shield and our Defender!
Thine is the battle, Thine shall be the praise;
When passing through the gates of pearly splendor,
Victors, we rest with Thee, through endless days.
When passing through the gates of pearly splendor,
Victors, we rest with Thee, through endless days.

Come to me, all who labor and
are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
matthew 11:28esv

lately my soul has been weary and tired. life has a way of getting to me sometimes. this hymn has been my melody for this weekend, a prayer and praise of resting in the savior. what a blessing to know HE never gets weary and his grace always runs downhill to meet me.

linking up with sweet katie!
go check out her beautiful post today! xo

  1. Thank you for the beautiful reminder that we can rest in Him. I wonder why I often take so much on and carry the stress instead of bringing it to God and resting. Simply beautiful. Thank you for linking up.

  2. Oh I do love that hymn! What words of comfort...knowing that rest is only found in Him...that He IS rest. Thank you for sharing that today. I will be singing that in my mind as I drift off to sleep.
    (Do you know that this is the last hymn that Jim Elliot and the other missionaries sang before they were martyred at the hands of the Auca Indians?)
