sometimes a light surprises

So we do not lose heart.
Though our outer self is
wasting away, our inner self is
being renewed day by day.
2 corinthians 4:16esv

i get so tired sometimes. physically and emotionally.
that verse stopped me in my weary tracks last week.
of course, i already knew the scripture, but it appeared on more than
one occasion these last few days.
reminding me of the the necessity of being in the word, close to the savior.
clinging tightly to him and his promises, my gloom is chased away. i don't lose heart.

For we are his workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand,
that we should walk in them.
ephesians 2:10esv

i must dwell on christ,
not myself-and all my tiresome baggage.
he made me.
a masterpiece.
i am enough.
just as i am.
because i am his.
he has plans for me, he knows each step.
even before i know what the plan is.

Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth
that I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.
psalm 73:25-26esv

there just isn't anything else.
nothing that matters, other than him.
no matter how lonely, worthless or broken i feel.
no matter how proud, selfish or inconsiderate i can be.
i was saved through works. his work. on the cross.
grace. unmerited favor.
he is my strength, he is all i need. forever.

i received a sweet surprise in my mailbox this afternoon.
this necklace, hand-stamped "i am enough".
with a little cross and a little clear crystal.
it's beautiful.
i have no idea where it came from,
it was addressed to me. it was for me.
let me tell you, it was like i heard
i haven't really talked to anyone this past week, i needed some encouragement.
BAM! there it be, on my neck.
praise jesus.
the mystery of who sent it is making me more than crazy,
so if anyone knows, do tell on yourself!

enjoy these lyrics, they are favorites of mine!

"Sometimes a light surprises
The Christian while he sings;
It is the Lord Who rises
With healing in His wings:
When comforts are declining,
He grants the soul again
A season of clear shining,
To cheer it after the rain.

In holy contemplation
We sweetly then pursue
The theme of God’s salvation,
And find it ever new;
Set free from present sorrow,
We cheerfully can say,
Let the unknown tomorrow
Bring with it what it may.

Tomorrow can bring us nothing,
But He will bear us through:
Who gives the lilies clothing
Will clothe His people, too:
Beneath the spreading heavens
No creature but is fed;
And He Who feeds the ravens
Will give His children bread.

Though vine nor fig tree neither
Their wonted fruit should bear,
Though all the fields should wither,
Nor flocks or herds be there
Yet, God the same abiding,
His praise shall tune my voice;
For, while in Him confiding,
I cannot but rejoice."

  10. Oh wow! I love how sweet God is to leav us little notes in the form of surprises like these. I love reading through this. especially when you said you have to DWELL on him. SO true@ I am so into that word right now..I wrote a blog post about it and it's significance! dwelling in him means we are stable and we "Remain"...something so hard for us to as humans but easy for Him! thanks so much for sharing this and giving me a sweet reminder to DWELL :)

  12. WOW, what a blessing that must have been. Im kinda wishin you had a source for the maker of it, let alone who sent it to you. I struggle with insecurity all the time and I love that phrase.
Praying you are well. May that necklace be a sweet reminder.
