blessed assurance

when i was very young, i had this record.
(wish i still had it! or on cd!)
it played for my listening pleasure daily/nightly.
even now as an adult, when i hear or sing hymns that were on this record, i hear little marcy singing them. a high pitched but clear, adorable voice. so soothing.
let me tell you, that record sang to me in very happy times as well as many very sad times.
although there were many hymns that became favorites, (holy holy holy, near the cross, when i survey the wondrous cross, i love to tell the story, stand up stand up for jesus) i'm singing this one around the house today.
i'm singing alto(along with marcy's melody in my head)
i'm weeping, thankful for: these true lyrics, the freedom to sing them, a son to teach them to, and a memory of little marcy.

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
(fanny crosby 1873)

  1. LIttle Marcy!! I am happy to hear you loved that record----and even more happy to know you love and know those good ol hymns

  2. I remember Little Marcie too. The recordings were a wonderful way to introduce children to some of our hymns. If you enjoy learning about these songs and those who wrote them, I invite you to check out my daily blog on the subject, Wordwise Hymns.

    And if you’ll excuse a brief “commercial”... With the arrival of fall, we begin to think of the Christmas season up ahead. If you do not have a good book on the subject of our Christmas carols, I encourage you to take a look at mine, Discovering the Songs of Christmas. In it, I discuss the history and meaning of 63 carols and Christmas hymns. The book is available through Amazon. (Might make a great gift too!)
