a dislocated joint.
this hungarian olympic weightlifter(janos baranyai) dislocated his elbow in 2008. ouch! if it hasn't happened to you, you have very likely seen it in a teammate, friend or even on tv! (it ain't pretty!!!)
what is your reaction to this pain?
if it's your pain, then you want someone (who knows what the heck they are doing) to fix you! you want them to be gentle and careful! if you are a witness to this, you are most likely wanting to see this injury relieved immediately. you desire to see that elbow where it is supposed to be!
what's the best solution? just quickly jerk that sucker back into place, allowing the possibility of doing even more harm with your aggressive method...or gentleness. thinking first. looking at the injury, then deciding the necessary movements to ease into getting the joint righted. restored.

our sermon on sunday was on this very thing. here is what hit ME:

when i sin, i absolutely do not like being confronted about it. thankfully, i have had many gentle rebukes by family and a few friends. i have also had many rebukes given in haste and anger. what a blessing when spiritually mature believers prayerfully thought out the best way to see me repent and be restored in my relationship to jesus christ. lovingly restoring my dislocation from the body of christ.
sadly, when i see sin in others, my reaction has sometimes been an aggressive one. gossiping, letting anger fill me to the point of rage. i become bitter and mean. it's like i don't care that jesus doesn't react this way, that i am shattered when treated this way. LORD, forgive me when i have chosen aggressive "sin spotting" and tackling it however my flesh desires.

take a look with me at galatians 5:22-6:10esv
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load. One who is taught the word must share all good things with the one who teaches.
Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith."

restoration is the goal here. not to "make certain they feel the pain of their sin, like i do!" or making them suffer long and hard. i should NOT be reacting sinfully to others caught in sin! my heart attitude must be one of love and gentleness.
the "dislocated" sinner will be in pain even when being dealt with gently. i personally know though(from being a huge sinner myself), that when the sin is confronted and dealt with, it is good. being right with god, where i belong is healthy, amazing!!

LORD, make me a gentle helper to the broken in your kingdom. Help me not to strike with more pain, with aggressive and bitter rage. Make me shine for you!

"We are the people of God
The sons and daughters of love
Forgiven, restored and redeemed
Living our lives to the praise of our King
We are the ones who will shine
His light in the darkness of the night
The hopeless, the broken, the poor
They will be hopeless no more

You are the light
The light of the world
And we shine You, Lord
You are the light
The light of the world
And we shine You, Lord"
*steve fee, you are the light*
